FAQs

Plan of Action

24-hour helpline

A 24 hour telephone help line is provided by staff and volunteers, who are trained to give help, advice and most importantly to listen to women who may not yet have reached the point of leaving.

All calls are treated in strict confidence and callers do not have to identify themselves telephone 01481 721999.

Outreach support services

Often women remain with an abusive partner, whilst considering their options. To assist with this process, members of GWR staff are able to meet with women in the community and a time and location of their choosing in order to provide practical and emotional support. All such contacts are treated in confidence. If you would like to meet with a member of staff please telephone 01481 721999.
  • You can just call in to talk with one of our friendly members of staff.
  • One of our staff can come to meet you in a place of your choice (not your home), may be a café, walk along the beach.
  • You can use the phone, if you want we can call you back our calls cannot be traced

You do not have to come and stay at the Refuge if you feel you need our help and support.

Emergency Accommodation

The Guernsey Women’s Refuge provides safe, emergency accommodation to women and their children fleeing abusive relationships and to enable them to take control of their lives and make choices about their future.

The premise offers a well furnished, homely environment. It has 6 bedrooms, a large well equipped kitchen with laundry facilities, comfortable lounge and a toy filled playroom. Although bathroom facilities are shared by residents, each bedroom is fitted with a washbasin and additional beds and cots are available for younger children. The building also houses an office and reception area in the event that residents need to meet privately with other agency workers. The Refuge is also able to accommodate women with physical disabilities.  Click here to see a photo tour of the Refuge.
